EVENTS ABROAD
Our Association’s Choir
started to travel abroad in 1961, giving concerts and
participating in Divine Liturgies in Orthodox Temples.
As such, it has been to:
- 1961 in Turkey- Constantinople, the
Choir participated in two Patriarchal Liturgies and gave
a concert in one of the town’s theatre.
- 1963 in England- London, Derby and Oxford,
where it participated in three Archbishop Liturgies in
the church of Saint Sophia; gave two concerts of hymns
and Greek songs in Derby and Oxford, and one concert in
the Kensington Hall of London.
- 1968 in England- London, where the
Choir took part in two Archbishop Liturgies in the church
of Saint Sophia and one in St. Demetrius. It also gave
a concert of hymns and Greek songs.
- 1971 in Belgium- Bruxelles, Charleroi, Liege,
Antwerpen, Oudenaarde, Gent, Dendermonde, where
the Choir gave 6 concerts with hymns of the Orthodox Church
and Greek songs; it also participated in the Divine Liturgy
at the Deorthodox Center in Italy, Teze, , and in the
Archbishop’s Liturgy in Venice.
- 1971 in England- London and Derby,
where two concerts took place with Greek songs; the Choir
also participated in the Archbishop’s Liturgy in St. Nicolas
of London.
- 1973 in Italy- Folina and Venice, to
take part in Divine Liturgies.
- 1973 in Switzerland- Geneva, where
a concert of Greek songs and hymns was given.
- 1975 in Austria- Vienna, a concert
was held, along with participation in a Divine Liturgy.
- 1976 in Italy- Rome, where the Choir
gave a concert with hymns of the Orthodox Church and Greek
songs, in the Vatican where it sang in the presence of
the Pope who awarded the Maestro A. Theofilopoulos, and
in Venice where it gave a concert with ecclesiastical
hymns.
- 1977 in Italy- Trieste, the Choir participated
in the Archbishop’s Liturgy and in the same evening gave
a concert with Greek and foreign songs in a theatre of
the town.
- 1977 in Belgium- Bruxelles, Antwerpen, Oudenaarde,
Dendermonde, Gent, where the Choir gave 5 concerts
with hymns of the Greek Church and Greek songs.
- 1978 in France- Marseilles, Avignon, Tarascon,
and Paris, where it took part in the Archbishop’s
Liturgy and gave 4 concerts with hymns of the Orthodox
Church and Greek songs.
- 1978 in Italy- Torino, where it participated
in the Divine Liturgy and gave one concert with hymns
of the Orthodox Church.
- 1979 in France- Marseilles, Tarascon, Lyon, Bordeaux,
Arcachon, and Libourne, where it participated
in a Liturgy in Bordeaux and gave concerts with hymns
and songs in the other cities.
- 1979 in Denmark- Aarus and Odensee,
where the Choir gave concerts with hymns and Greek songs.
- 1980 in Italy- Rome, where it took
part in a Divine Liturgy and gave a concert with hymns
and Greek songs.
- 1980 in France- Dijon, St. Remy Mont Bart,
where it participated in the Divine Liturgy and gave a
concert with hymns and Greek songs.
- 1981 in France- Tarascon, where the
company “Armonia Mundi” recorded the Choir at the Liturgy
of Saint John and in other hymns.
- 1981 in England- Oxford and London,
the Choir gave 2 concerts, and one more in the Archbishop’s
Mansion, Lambeth Palace, with hymns of the Orthodox Church.
- 1982 in France, Kinzheim (Alcase) and Strasburg,
where it gave two concerts with hymns and songs.
- 1984 in Hungary- Budapest, where it
participated in the Divine Liturgy in the Orthodox Temple.
- 1984 in Germany- Frankfurt and Wiesbaden,
where it participated in the Divine Liturgy and gave 2
concerts with songs.
- 1987 in Hungary- Budapest, where it
gave one concert with hymns and songs.
- 1987 in Austria- Vienna, where the Choir participated
in the Archbishop’s Liturgy and gave a concert at Schubert
Saal.
- 1990 in France- Chaumont and Bar-sur-Aube,
where it gave 3 concerts with hymns and Greek songs.
- 1993 in England- London and Corydon,
where it gave 2 concerts and participated in 2 Divine
Liturgies.
- 1995 in France- Reims and Langres, where
the Choir gave 2 concerts with hymns and songs.
- 1996 in England- London and Barnet,
where it participated in the Archbishop's Liturgy in Saint
Sophia and gave 2 concerts with hymns and songs.
- 1998 in Italy- Rome, where it gave
a concert with hymns and songs in honour of the 10 years
of the Greek Embassy at the Vatican, and participated
in a Liturgy at Saint Andrew.
- 1999 in Hungary- Budapest and St. Andrew,
where it participated in the Liturgy of the Orthodox Temple
and gave one concert in Budapest at the “Vicado” and one
at St. Andrew.
- 2000 in England- London, Croydon and Barnet,
where it participated in the Archbishop’s Liturgy in Saint
Sophia and gave 2 concerts with hymns and songs.
- 2003 in England- London and Barnet,
the Choir gave a concert with Greek and foreign songs
and participated in the Divine Liturgy in Saint Catherine’s
church.
- 2004 in Egypt- Cairo and Alexandria,
where it participated in 2 Patriarchal Liturgies and gave
one concert at the Cairo Opera with Greek and foreign
songs.
- 2006 in Bulgaria- Sofia, where the
Choir gave one concert with Greek and foreign songs.
The Saint George Karitsis Choir “Themistoklis Polikratis” has been continuously operating any pause since its foundation year in 1897. It participates in many events yearly, either by going to concert or by participating in festivals in many Greek cities.
